Comments:

After the '92 collapse, there is a vibe in the shows that hadn't been there before. it's nothing that can be described, but the effect it has is noticeable. The shows still sound good, but they don't quite peak like they did prior to '93. This show is a good example. The playing is good and the music is tight for the most part, but there's just something missing. Although, i do love the song Liberty. It just makes me smile.

I retract my previous statement. Just listened to the following nights show and it's a completely different animal then this one.

Guess it just took a few shows to get bck on course.

This was a great show! So much new stuff at least to me at the time. Here Comes Sunshine a late 92 bust out and my first time seeing it. Wang Dang Doodle hot with energy and starting to find its feet in the first set Bobby blues spot. Broken Arrow, Eternity and Liberty all new and I hadn't heard any of them yet. I remember I specifically didn't listen to the Phoenix or Oakland shows on tape because I knew I was going to Chicago and wanted to hear the new tunes live first. They didn't disappoint. Great 2nd set and Sugar Mag really was one for the ages. Unfortunately they say this run is where Jerry started using again. He was on fire the first night. I noticed a bit of a dip on the 3rd night but that one was still cool with the word jazz and Wave To Wind as well.

Sorry just the Oakland shows on tape. They played Phoenix in 94 not 93

I was at this show and 33 years later exactly, here are my thoughts on the two 'new' songs that ended the first set.

Eternity and Liberty have more in common than just being one-word names that end in 'ly'. They are good songs with terrible, awful choruses.

Eternity has a nice, relaxed groove and there's a good jam section. But the chorus... eeesh.

E-TER-NI-TY

That's it as far as I can tell.

Liberty has some 'chefs kiss' Hunter lyrics. I mean... for an opener...

Saw a bird with a tear in his eye
Walking to New Orleans my oh my
Say hey bird wouldn't you rather die
Than walk this world when you're born to fly

And the finale...

Went to the well but the water was dry
Dipped my bucket in the clear blue sky
Looked in the bottom and what did I see
Whole damn world looking back at me

If I was a bottle I'd spill for love
Sake of mercy I would kill for love
If I was a liar I'd lie for love
For the sake of my baby, I'd die for love
Sake of my baby, I'd die for love

But that chorus... woof.

Ooh freedom
Ooh liberty
Oh leave me alone
To find my own way home
Find my own way home
