There was a short, organ-concentrated Funicula Funiculi right before Bertha. Great show.

such a good show. love shows that start off with "LTGTR," but then after that they come out with smoking versions of both "Feel Like a Stranger" and "Bertha." This has to be their best attempt at "Just a Little Light" ever...most versions of the song leave me somewhat disliking the song but I love this version. "cassidy" and "tennessee jed" are wonderful as well.

but then there's THE second set. phil steps up to bat with "Box of Rain," always nice to hear him sing. this has to be the best "victim or the crime>foolish heart" ever...jerry is just flowing. the BEST "foolish heart" ever is probably 9/19/90 at MSG (check that jam out, it's mind-bogglingly good) but this is probably the best version of the combo. oh yeah, and we also have probably the best later years version of "Dark Star" and it's a monster. compare this version to the 10/9/89 version and it's night and day. the first vocals in this one don't come in until 7 minutes.

post space we have a churning "All Along the Watchtower," my favorite "Dear Mr. Fantasy>Hey Jude" and a seismic "Touch of Grey." and aside from a minor Bobby verbal flub (like that NEVER happens) "The Weight" is pretty majestic.

Came from NC the night before with the lightning, rain, and heat Spent the day between body surfing at Virginia Beach. Poured like Hell there too (that night). We camped at a state park nearby, my buddy in his fancy tent and me in my Academy Broadway dome. I think I paid about 25 bucks for it. After the deluge that night I got up bone dry and found him asleep in the car...said he was getting soaked.

Anyway at the gig I found seats Phil side in that ring of about 5 or 6 rows that wrapped around RFK. A position I would normally seek out in arenas for a good view of Jerry. Anyway my buddy and video taper Rich (RIP) pops in by coincidence and sets up with all his buddies (no doubt to hide from the potential rain). Unfortunately when the show began as the heads began their dancing routines the stadium started to bounce...not like the Garden balcony bounced...but I'm sure the vids captured the motion quite well. This show was fun, kinda wish I went to KS and KY but luckily I caught the rest of the tour...for obvious reasons. Too bad Tinley sucked so darn bad (the venue I mean). Deer Creek....ahhhhyup! :)

Last Dark Star with Brent and I have to agree with the Anonymous poster above Boss. This one is night and day with the Hampton return. As high energy and explosive as the return may be, this DS tapped into the old weirdness that made the stars from '74 and back so unique. The whole second set was pristinely performed, with an eerie transition out of space into Watchtower. Brent is sounding a little more alive then at previous shows this tour. The first two nights his voice just sounded like a meat grinder. Too bad he left this world shortly after this tour, the music finally sounds like it finally settled into the new style and crowd around fall '89.

I was there for this show...a huge black cloud moved over the stadium just before the gang was about to take stage...then there was a huge lightning bolt and clap of thunder and of course a cloud burst soon followed...we didnt go in... but instead just enjoyed the rain. soon after jerry came out and looked over the crowd and started picking as if to say lets have a good time, and we did!

This was my first show (and my first concert of any kind!)...age 15. I had no idea who the Grateful Dead were, I thought they were a metal band, I went for the opening act which was Edie Brickell. I even asked if we could leave after Edie. When The Dead opened with LTGTR I said to myself "Ok, we'll see, it may take all night, but I'll give it a try!" 17 shows later and the rest is history!

great show, had an absolute blast. i have no problem at all with the midi driven direction jerry and the band took at this juncture of their existence. they had always evolved and created new art on the edge of a creative wave that no other band in history has ever rode. besides the excellent stranger-bertha-just a little light and fantastic cassidy the watchtower smoked. and maybe the most memorable visions were of the huge dancing skeletons on both sides of the stage during a rare closing touch of grey. the one on the left i think started to fall apart but they were able to keep it dancing until the end of the song. god bless the grateful goddamn dead!!!!!!
