This show releasde as "View from the Vault IV" along with 7.24.87. However Set 3 ia omitted from both shows?
-

That dang dylan guy - guess he doesn't want his shows out. Hey, no prob...but the lack of encores in the vault series sucks and it's due to dylan :(

Officially released on DVD as "View From The Vault IV."

What a Magical Day this was, the Show had some good riffs and some bad one too, but in all the show served me well. I hated to leave and go Back home when it was over. I remember how hot it was waiting for the band to show... Garcia and Dylan again....
Thanks for the Show...

I remember coming away thinking that an otherwise fine Grateful Dead concert was ruined by Bob Dylan.

The Dead sets were excellent from this date. Watching VFTV 4, you can tell that Jerry is having some fun. And it clearly comes through in his playing. Excellent versions of Bird Song, Stella Blue, and Throwing Stones.
I recommend watching the DVD rather than just listening to the MP3. It adds to the experience.

Jerry's voice is so crisp on Bird Song. He really lets you have it in the spacey jam too, just powerfully hit chords up and down the tigers neck. Can't believe that the Dylan shows ended up being good, since the first try in '86 wasn't so great. Jerry may have been inches from the entrance to comaland, but still, wow. and Dylan was drunk off his ass at most of these shows. This is probably the best bob dylan performs of all the shows. And unfortunately that isn't saying much. But on a happy note, the Dead will definitely go down as the best damn back-up band Dylan ever had. Great moment in history, from a distance.

I'm not a huge fan of New Minglewood Blues. To me its one of those concert songs that bands use to get a big cheer out of the audience when their home town is mentioned, but Bobby got creative here. Instead of the normal line: "These 'Insert Your Town Name Here' fillies start lookin' good.", being in Anaheim, he went with: "These Disney Minnies start lookin' good." It made me laugh. I had to back up to hear the line again.

I was at this show and any Dead show was a good Dead show for me, but I remember being pretty disappointed in Dylan. Reinforced by listening to the archive show: you can't understand a freaking word he's signing, and he leaves out verses, etc... And it was a pretty short Dead show, but you can't blame them since they still had to play the third set. All in all, though, it was a good experience and I cherish every Dead show I saw.

Pretty mellow . This tour is the boys marketing like a traditional rock band . Promoting an album for sure . Playing the masses to fill your heroine stashes . Money grab stadium deal .
