Frist!

This is a pretty good second set, nice and soulful towards the end. Great great sound on the Miller release, which has a way of making any "normal" show standout. A few rough spots but the boys work it out. The crowd is in it, check out the NFA.

3rd night of the first post-coma shows. I was at all three; I had only been to two prior (both nights at Irvine Meadows same year). A college mate who's mother was apparently Jerry's head nurse at Marin General Hospital had been given a pair of backstage passes when he learned her son was a budding young fan. We sort of ran into the band just before they took the stage for the second set. I remember Jerry being very animated and in a great mood. It was cool just being a fly on the wall as they discussed what songs to play next. Saw the Dead play maybe a dozen or so times in the years to come but these 3 shows were the apex for me. And now I prefer to listen to 69-72 era Dead but it was amazing to have experienced them and these nights in particular.

Listening to this Black Peter really got me up in my feels. Jerry singing...

One more day I find myself alive
Tomorrow maybe go beneath the ground

Poignant stuff at this time.

And then follow up with...

See here how everything lead up to this day
And it's just like any other day that's ever been
Sun going up and then
The sun it going down
Shine through my window
And my friends they come around

I always thought that bridge perfectly described the "lead up" to the day of a Dead show. The anticipation of it.

Come to think of it... It's wrong. The sun going up and down part yes but any day that included attending a Grateful Dead concert was most certainly NOT like any other day.
