My 13th show. Smokestack w/ Matt Kelly on harmonica. Agreed....good, but not great.

it's funny, i was on tour at this time and i do love these shows but in comparison, jeez, they kinda suck. setlist is unique but the shows are barely 2 hours long. not THE DEAD i grew up on.

My friend's first show. He said, "What are they gonna do? Open with 'Truckin''?" Sure enough ... basically I was too altered to remember this show, which is a shame, because it was my first "High Time," "China Cat," "Fire on the Mountain," "Scarlet Begonias." The energy in the Coliseum was fantastic that night. Listening to it now, I don't remember Jerry's voice being so scratchy, but it fit in in "High Time." The second set sizzled with a great "Drums/Space," Phil was on fire. Maybe the best show I was at.
