This was my very first Grateful Dead experience. I only went because my best friend wanted to go and I figured that I needed to say that I had seen the Grateful Dead at least once in my life before they quit. See the thing was that several years before, I had been exposed to Lynyrd Skynyrd and as far as I was concerned, there was no other band. But Skynyrd was dead by this time and there was not a chance of ever seeing the real thing. In the process I stared buying up other bands that were associated with the “Southern Rock” thing.

So me and my buddy and two other friends went to the show ate some brownies and had our minds blown away. Never had I been so exposed to the Dead Heads. I grew up in Davis so the Whole Earth Festival was always around, but my parents weren't really hippies and I was kind of sheltered. Anyway the show was great, changed what I thought I knew about music that I liked.
In my mind they played Sugar Magnolia for at least thirty minutes. I must hear that jam again.

Where can I get a copy of this show?!

My friends and I saw the show the night before in Reno and we drove an old milk truck all painted up with psychedelic colors over the Sierra Mountains through Donner Pass in a blizzard to get to this show. This show was on a Sunday night but they opened with "One More Saturday Night" after Bobby announced "We forgot to play this one last night".

Don't remember much of this one. Saw the boys in Reno the night before and danced my butt off at the back of the hall. My folks lived in Reno so spent the night at their place. Waiting on the bus went to Harrah's casino and turned my last $5 into $60 pretty quick counting cards at blackjack table. There was a guy betting $50 a hand so my little bets/game wasn't noticed. Boarded bus to Davis. It pretty much rained the whole time we were inside the show and soggy afterward but I didn't seem to care for a good reason. It was a basketball court with not-so-great acoustics. Ended up on Phil's side in bleachers near top of hall. Sat next to a stranger who produced a large bag of blow. Made friends quickly and we proceeded to make the bag small all night. Hence good memories but little specifics.
