"does anyone know if this show is aka: "with love from egypt" ? would love to know.
-anonymous"

I forgot to answer your question--yes! The VCD is entitled "From Egypt With Love"

-MattMan

well, concerning the question "from egypt with love", both is right. There exists a series of shows in the following of the egypt - shows named "from egypt with love" as well as a triple cd-edition with the same name covering the shows from 09/14-16/78, but the quality is only "aud", not to compare with the 24 track copy from gdlive for example. If anybody is interested in the 3-cd-set I can send a jpg.

For Mattman or Doug,
The "from Egypt with love", is a series of shows they did from Oct.17,78- Oct.22,78. These are indeed wonderful shows and the quality of the recordings in astounding. The tuesday show alone is worth having for the all to rare and beautiful "If I had the world to give". This song was only played live three times. I hope this helps resolve unfound speculation or skepticism.

The Ollin Arrageed > Fire On The Mountain will be released on the box set Beyond Description.

OVER RATED OVER RATED!

sorry all, i have not heard a "smokin" 78 show yet, they were hung over the whole year......
-joehead

Hey! I was 12 years old, and we were visiting some crazy beautiful folk who taught English at the Cairo American College. We went to the pyramids that evening, and there they were, jamming with a cool light show and all right at the pyramids and the sphynx. Pretty small croud.

I had never heard of them, and never saw them again... I remember alot of Egyptions dancing sweet in their galabeas. Seeing video of this would be a trip for me.
-Drumoon

PRETTY GOOD.WHY SO HARD ON 78?I LOVE HASH,AND THEY DID TOO.THROW IN SOME COKE,SYD AND PUSSY,YOUD BE TIRED TOO.OR SHAKIN ALL OVER LIKE MARYANN W/ SHAKY HANDS.BEAUTIFUL STELLA'S FROM 78.THEY WORKED HARD IN THEIR LIVES.WORTH COLLECTING.JUST ANOTHER SHOW TO THEM.IF I HAD A SONG TO SING I'D SING IT TO YOU.BUT I DONT,GARCIA DOES.GIVE A LISTEN.TURN AROUND,WHEN YOU WANT SOME COMPANY THAT REALLY CARES.........NEED TO GO FOR WALK.GARCIA ALMOST NEVER NOODLES,BUT SEARCHES.AT LEAST HE TRY'S.
-mr. taw 420

I read in "Living with the dead" that this show almost bankrupted the band, and they had to tour like 1971(Mickey's dad stealing) all over again to recoup the amount of money the spilled for one night!

-Perrin

This show is sweeeeet
-powiee (11/08/2007)

My friend Rick Maley was at this show. He followed Ken Kesey to the top of the pyramids. Rest in Peace my friend Rick.
-bill (01/01/2008)

This show is not the greatest of 1978 (the greatests are 1-22(Other One), 2-05(Other One, Fire), 4-08(Half Step, Prophet), 4-24(Fire), 5-07(Fire), 5-14, 7-07(peggy o), 7-08(franklins), 9-01(scarlet, fire), 10/20-21-22, 11/17 early(deep elem blues), 11/20 (shakedown>world to give), 11/24(ollin arrageed>fire), 12/12 (half step>franklins), 12/19 (stella>nfa), 12/30 (great all around), and 12/31 (you know, you know).

BUT this show DOES have a sweet El Paso, and a Really sweet Ollin Arrageed > Fire > Iko Iko. Just download those four songs, at least.
- (03/05/2008)

No mention of 5/11 in your greatest of 78? Charles...please...go back and finish your homework.

Best circumcised penis blues ever!
-Anonymous (11/23/2011)

Just received "Rocking The Cradle" 1978 from Dead.net. Claims 2 of the shows (1 on DVD and 1 on 2 CDS) These setlists are in total comflict with these postings. Comment?
- (02/20/2013)

Once more, Jerry and Phil save another show from falling completely apart. I'm sure jerry and Phil had a real LOOOONNNGGGGG talk on the plane home. I could imagine they were both pissed.

The second set of this show is probably the best sounding set of the whole run. And thats not saying much, considering the past the band had up to this point.
-Murphy (04/10/2013)

And these shows are fucked because of song forms, transitions and overall tightness of the playing. The jams and solos are still dank. I would def listen to these shows again, cause the Ollin Arageed from each show is uniquely intersting, especially this nights one. So don't freak out if you love these shows, i'm being very technically critical of them.
-Murphy (04/10/2013)

billy drums with one arm this show! camel accident?!

for real though, he drums with one arm, check youtube for video of this show
-Sean (06/23/2013)

Ollin Arageed is performed by Hamza El Din and co
mpany, one of the true masters of the oud and a great musician by all standards. The Dead noticed this and the rest of the listening world should. He has several epic recordings and anyone with any taste in string music should seek out his recordinds.
- (08/09/2013)

All in all... it's the Dead doing what they do at the base of the Egyptian pyramids. Wanting to see how places of great energy influenced the music, here is the result "... in the strangest of places if you look at it right."
Ollin Arageed is one of my all-time favorite tunes and this collaboration with Hamza is right on (even if not all tight). Actually, give a close listen to All Over Now; the interplay and energy is all working! That is one poignant versions of Stella Blue! The song litterally comes to a complete and oh-so silent stops.... "Stella Blue."
There were better-played shows (pre-Aug. '78) and downright terrible years.... But on this night you have the Dead in Egypt during a lunar eclipse.

First time Fire was played without Scarlet
