Dark Star Orchestra performed this show in Birmingham, AL on 5/3/02, and the end of the first set through the encore was absolutely smoking.

Here I am minding my own business, listening to this show wind down with a nice Wharf Rat > Playing reprise, when all of a sudden they build and build this noise out of nowhere, something totally unexpected and not quite like anything I had ever heard before. Then they perfectly float back down from space and get back to finishing the show. I don't know about you, but those are the moments I live for when listening to the Dead. The whole second set definitely slaps - before I got to the Wharf Rat > Playin' ending, I figured I would highlight the ending solo to FOTM as my personal highlight. As always, great stuff in spring '77.
