I was only 6 days old when they played this one. I guess it's the closest to a b-day show I can get.

Just wanted to share a little history note: the Dead played "Samson and Delilah" in Durham, NC. That song has been attributed to Reverend Gary Davis, who was discovered in the 1930s when he played on the streets in Durham. I think that's really cool! Jerry Garcia owned some of Rev. Davis' albums (and was clearly influenced by him) as stated in the liner notes for Shady Grove.

If there would be a better quality tape of this show in circulation than what is currently making rounds, it would be one of the top shows of the year.

There is a better transfer available now on the archive. Excellent show. Hopefully this hidden gem will now get the praise it deserves. Please enjoy and then pass it along to a friend.

My first show. I remember the lead guitar player could really play.
