Comments:

after attending that "monster" 3 set show in des moines a few weeks earlier this show seemed rather "routine" at the time...good...solid but nothing exceptional...now upon listening to some pristine tapes 28 years later (dear God has it REALLY been THAT long?)i would have to say that yes this was an "average" show for '74 but what that means is that it is a show worth having!
the wrs prelude>wrs part 1>let it grow is worth the price of admission...the second set dark star is quite cosmic and has some "interstellar" moments...i recall that the ship of fools encore seemed a downer at the time...it still is!

Does anyone know who opened this show? Could it have been Heartsfield?

I was listening to the Dark Star on the Dead CHannel, and there is a MONSTER Slipknot! tease towards the end of Dark Star. It must go on for about 2 minutes, its really fast too. Check it out on archive, it is fully developed. Really cool!

I went to this show (my 2nd) and I recall there being a set of Phil & Ned during the "Intermission". Am I remembering correctly?

Wasthe monster 3 set show in IA actually a year earlier? Wonder how the venue was on the south side.
- (05/21/2014)

I was there with a dozen of more friends – we all were fortunate enough to be in the first 10 rows. The first surprise was the “Wall of Sound” – the second surprise is that the Dead were dressed in western/sparkly outfits (the only time I have ever seen that). I didn’t think it was their best performance but it seems to play back better than I thought (it was great to hear it on SiriusXM on the 45th anniversary of the concert). Phil definitely went over the top with his play during the intermission.

Just listen to this show and definitely a slipnot. Set list should say Darkstar>Slipnot

Loose Lucy and Black Throated Wind were selected for 2021 30 Days of Dead Day 4.

Wow that Slipknot makes me wonder if it was just a riff Jerry had in his back pocket. And then when Hunter brought Help on the Way and Franklin's Tower out for Blues for Allah, the musical genius just thought, 'hey that melody would make a cool bridge between these two songs and we can turn it into a suite!'

Even if that's not the way it went down, I like to imagine it to be so.
-Dr Filth (10/11/2022)

Me and my uncle, weir sings

I shot him down Ron, he never saw

That’s pretty dramatic, to say, since pigpen’s name was Ron and he died the year prior. Awesome show, so far! Surprising to see slipknot in the set list!
