What a day.

Silver threads is amazing, and captures the "wooden" dead i love so much. The lovelight is a pigpen gem, much like his easy wind in the early show that day. a spot-on china/rider really rounds this out - i don't have a ton of shows, but this one is my favorite.

I've been listening to the the new Road Trips release, early and late shows. The sound on this release is outstanding and it seems to perfectly capture the atmosphere of the Fillmore. The acoustic set, late show is such a great listen, my personal favorite is Katie Mae. The electric set rocks and has a wonderful Dark Star that will at times put you in a trance. Lots of fun!

Ah yes. Late 60s, early 70s Dead. Five hour shows that began at midnight. New Riders in the middle. Sausage & peppers hero sandwiches from open-air Village shops. Walk to the Fillmore, buy a ticket for that night's show. The balcony. The "upstairs bummer's palace" for the temporarily derailed. Jerry on the left, Phil to the right. If you were there, you know. If not, there are these precious preservations to ponder. Peace.
