Comments:

This entire 3 nights at the Avalon Ballroom 4/4/69 to 4/6/69, in my humble opinion, is The Dead at their best. The Other One from 4/6/69 is the definitive "The Other One"

Yes, I was at this show too...I think the thing that impressed us the most was the boys 'carrying on' (as it were) with the vocals (thru the P.A.) AFTER somebody unplugged all the guitar amps.

Somehow, the 'evil-doers' didn't think to shut off the mics, so jerry, bob and phil just did the remainder of Viola Lee Blues acapella. Very impressive. And a boss night all around.

I have my doubts about the last two encores listed. The amps are unplugged near the end of VLB and it is concluded a capella. Then someone says, "Let's have a warm goodnight for the Grateful Dead," and the recording cuts out. I doubt the amp-unplugging powers-that-be would have stood around patiently as the boys sang an a capella version (shudder!) of What's Become of the Baby. Excellent versions of TOO, Baby Blue, and DDHNM, with over-the-top energy and dripping with emotion.
