my 2nd show, we bought general admission tickets at the door! yes floor general admission at the door! and it was a mail order, at least it looked like one. don't believe me? I still have the stub. all these hippies are walking around wanting tickets and there at the door for $22.50. that was the last time I ever saw anything like that! great show!

Great show. Half way thru Shakedown Street I remember watching a good 10,000 dead heads climbing over the 8 foot wall to get to the floor.

I concur. Great show all around. Decent energy. Los Lobos opened the show, but don;t remember if the Dead invited them out to play during their sets?? Shakedown opener...maybe because we were next to NYC?? Victim still trying to find it's perfect placement in a show. Certainly not the first set, IMO.

My last show - moved overseas 2 weeks later and was still there when brother Jerry died. Altogether a great show & crowd. I'll never forget when they turned on the video monitor for the 2nd set, which gave the other 90% of the crowd a good view. They panned each band member for ~10 seconds and saved JG for last. Crowd response at that point sounded like a jet taking off!

First show in a big stadium after 10 years of smaller places after just coming back from 6 months living in the Middle East, was blown away from the electric energy that I saw. The whole place was ablaze with NJ/NY energy.

Just now re-listening to this great sounding show from the Giants Stadium boxed set. All around enjoyable performance. However, this show is a little unusual for me in that I found that I preferred the 1st set over the 2nd set. Two reasons I favor the 1st set:

#1 To my ears, the show opening Shakedown-Jack Straw- West LA is the best performed and highest energy sequence in the entire show. The rest of the 1st set is solid as well, and they close the set with a spectacular Bird Song.

#2 Mind you, the 2nd set is good. The high point (in my opinion) is the set closer when Jerry lays down a scorching jam during NFA. That said, there were so many great shows and 2nd sets during this Summer Tour that in comparison, the bulk of this set rates just kind-of average. Besides the hot NFA, nothing else really jumped out at me as really extraordinary.

Don't get me wrong...good show...definitely worth a listen. However, I would reckon this show like an airline ride; buckle your seat belt for the take-off and landing, but once you reach cruising altitude feel free to move about the cabin.

I am finally hearing this show from the Giants Stadium box. I've heard all archival releases to this point, and I'm shocked at how bad this performance is. The drummers sound drunk and the band never catches fire, unless you count the jam in Bird Song. It is a stinker of a show. If you like this one, try harder to find a better one. That will be very easy. Even the 1987 show from this box is miles ahead of this one. Bummer.
