my first show. no ticket. one person through the gates at a time. five security people to get past. the guy in front of me announces that he doesn't have a ticket just as he gets to the gate. i'm next and without overdramatizing the whole thing, i somehow breezed past all five guards and into the show. no ticket but someone up there had my miracle...

My first show, I was in the 4th row of the orchestra pit right in front of Brent. Aired on local radio live. Last show they ever played at SPAC. 2nd set changed my life! I wore out the tape.

<<40,000 people in a 25,000 amphi>>

Well, the amphitheatre is pretty small actually; most people were on the lawn outside.

rain like nobodys business during the first set!

I think it rained every year at this place. '83, '84, '85, and '88. Unfortunately, I had to jump the fence. Til this day, I have a hard time listening to the recording because of it. Some new tunes being brought out. 4th Victim, 4th Foolish Heart, 2nd Take You Home. Loved the Candyman. Crazyfingers always a treat.

SPAC is Beautiful. The Dead probably just made that whole place glow.

My story I almost made it to the 1983 show. First I scalped 2 tics. Second I brought this friend Sandy with me. I just loved this show. The Candyman was great. I just loved the Scarlet Begonias Fire on the Mountain. I was really excited that they played Foolish Heart. This was definitely one of the highlights for me. Moreover, it started to rain during the Scarlet Begonias. I almost reached Nirvana!
