One of the first shows I attended and probably the best! Cozy 2,500 seat arena; smoking show from start to finish! Sugar Mags>Black Peter>Around&Around>SSDD to finish the 2nd Set! Fantstic!

right on Bob!! it is a very HOT show and you were fortunate to be there!!
i would also mention that the scarlet>fire is an extremely smokin' version!! the dead were warming up for their second European invasion of '81 with one hell of a show in bethelem!!
-

Wow! My second show. What can I add. They played in a gym. We danced all night. I was hooked for good.
-

This was my second show - hitched a ride from western pa to philly - same day as the stones '81 tour opener. Friend of the Devil hooked me for life. At the time I had no idea how special this show was - 2,500 people in attendance.
-

This was my first Dead show too. Now that I look back, I'm glad I was forunate enough to have caught the tail end of the college circuit days before they started playing mostly larger arenas and stadiums. To this day there is still no other band that even comes close to the Grateful Dead in concert.

what a show lovin every minute of it. until we where pulled over by the cops who thought we where at the rolling stones show that night and shined the flash light in the drivers eyes and said are you stoned, and he said no officer i'm just trippin.

I
Peggy-O, Birdsong, Althea..wow three Jerry ballads in one set!
Passenger-94th/99 times played, to be retired in Dec81.

II-Multiple combo set
Samson>Scarlet>Fire
Sailor>Saint
Wheel>Sugar Magnolia>Black Peter>Around

Thanks Darrin for the tidbit about the boys warming up for the Euro tour, explains why there are some many combo's in one show. Black Peter has alot of soul as compared to other versions.

Dicks Picks/Vault series...take note
-Perrinswolf

My very first show. Poofs, swirls and checkerboards! I actually saw skeletons with canes and top hats dancing in mid air. They left me speechless! I saw many more during the 80’s. I would love a recording of it.

My 4th show, and the closest to my home, about 5 miles away. Insane good time AND a great 1st set and even better 2nd set. IIRC, there were sound problems during Minglewood & FOTD, that shows up on audience and on the soundboard recording.
I would LOVE to have this show officially released as a Road Trips or another series (yet to come) warts and all.

To be truthful, I WAS/AM under the influence of something... while writing this and my earlier post.

My first show. Went out of curiosity, (walked there from my house). What a party that continued for years. RIP, Jerry <3
-Tracey (01/03/2012)

they opened with an instrumental new minglewood cause the sounds on h mics was off...

great show I was in the second row as a student at LU at the time...

What a show! I had seen many before, but what I remember most was that I was playing football at K.U. and overslept the next day and missed the bus for an away
game!

Can we rid ourselves of this crazy notion that only 2500 people were there? Stabler holds 6200 people for concerts with seats on the floor. This show had a GA floor. This show sold out in hours.

This was my first show. I was 4 weeks shy of my 17th birthday and I probably weighed 125 lbs. I drank a 6 pack of Colt 45 before the show (cuz that's what Valley kids did in the 80s) and was way too drunk to comprehend anything other than FOTM. What this show did do is open the door to 128 more over the next 14 years. I've been to hundreds of venues in the last 40+ years - Stabler remains in my Top 3.

100th Bird Song Played (maybe 99th if one was played on 8/24/71 or not).

@Blair - good list of top Bird Songs but there was no show on 8/26/72. Maybe you mean the one in Berkley on 8/24/72. That one is top 10 for me (with the best Dark Star Ever - LISTEN!)
