another fine show during this great run of shows from 79-83 this year was a forgotten one and in the history of the deads legacy a fantastic transition from losing kieth and Donna to gaining perhaps the best keyboard and organ player around then he was so under estimated listen to brent channel if you can and you will hear what mean solid playing always
thank god for 79 senoir year of high school

I think their Meyer sound system debuted at these two shows...Also remember seeing Garcia's 'new' guitar after the yellow-butterscotch-colored thing he'd been playing for a coupla years. Lesh had a matching bass he used for a year or so...ALSO Garcia and Lesh had switched stage sides and they went on with that configuration until the end.

4/2/82 Cameron Indoor Stadium, Duke U., Durham, N.C. (Fri) was when Phil and Jerry switched sides of the stage, as per deadbase

Killer show! 3 song encore, "wow"

And Duke 82 was when Jerry and Phil changed sides as I was there.

Jerry is lovin' the Tiger, hear it roar on Around and Around to close a wild set.

and lol to the Johnny B. Goode being for chuck berry going to jail. $200,000 tax evasion.

I was at this show with my brother in law, first time for him. I remember a couple of things. My vw bus broke down on the way from Sausalito, just after we crossed the bridge. We left it on Chestnut st. Took a bus. Then took Bart. then a cab and got there just as the band was kicking off.... I also recall the heads singing happy birthday to Jerry when he came out for the third set/encore. House lights were turned up. The dead rocked out that encore for sure. Great time (as always), great show. always grateful for those times!

I dig Jerry's lightning speed on the Scarlet jam just before he switches tones and styles completely after Phil drops the FOTM intro. Great show.

This early version of Althea is so interesting. The lyrics are mostly all there but they are radically mixed up from the ultimate order. Also there's the line "...honest to the point of innocence" which eventually morphed into "honest to the point of recklessness." The latter just fits better especially with the next line, "self-centered to the extreme."
