Comments:

This DARK STAR is really a DARK STAR JAM. There are no vocals just jam.
-

Best US Blues ever!!!
-Nick

The boys are really struggling in this show. One of the few 74 shows I've heard that isn't amazing. First set almost painful to listen to. Second set isn't bad, but they still weren't clicking. But they clearly gave it their best effort! No one could ever fault their work ethic!
-Big House

Big House, this show rocks
-Anonymous

Big House, you're a dusche...the dark star >>> spanish jam>>> US Blues blew my mind. I was on the verge of a seizure from the intense jamming.
-chaddeadfan

Cherished this tape! Great show with quirky song selections. Loved this tape for the last 30 years!!!
-

To Lay Me Down>WRS>China Doll in the 1st set! Sublime jams to put you in a trance before the 2nd set blast off.
-Perrinswolf (09/06/2007)

According to this site, this was the ONLY show where they played Let it Rock! Yay Chuck Berry! It's a strong version -- never done again?
- (10/26/2007)

Cumberland-Check this one out folks, a mini set in itself w/Garcia plucking, regular ole jamming and great vocals!
-Brianmerrilyn (01/07/2008)

"We are near the Bermuda triangle or something right" says Phill before Half Step, and with some trippy soundeffect afterward.
-Iceguru (03/13/2008)

I don't think the 2nd Set list is correct...it's not what there on LMA.
-Steve (04/26/2008)

Hmm...I think the setlist is correct.
-Steve (05/31/2008)

Just as Bobby starts singing El Paso you hear him say "easy boys"...guess they were movin' a wee bit to fast for him.
-Perrinswolf (07/17/2008)

Let It Rock, amen!!! They should've played more than this one time!
-Dave (10/28/2008)

The DS>US Blues is one of the top jams of all time. There are actually no vocals in the DS but none needed, it is outstanding. Jam intensity levels are set at 11. June through August 74 are amazing.
-Anonymous (09/24/2009)

First seastones ever. I love how mind melting it gets. Goes well with fungus.

Set 2 is incredible!!!
-Dave (06/11/2010)

One of the best audience tapes I've ever heard, courtesy of the master Jerry Moore. Some song choices are a little odd, but the band is completely locked in the groove. Not firey or aggressive jamming, moreso laid-back, unrushed, and deep. Highlights:

Set 1
Ramble On Rose
Row Jimmy
Let It Rock (only time performed)
To Lay Me Down ->
WRS ->
China Doll

Set 2
Jam ->
Ship Of Fools
Dark Star ->
Spanish Jam ->
U.S. Blues

The Jam that begins Set 2 is exquisite. you can really hear the Wall of Sound in '74 AUDs.

http://www.archive.org/details/gd74-06-23.moore.weiner.gdADT.14265.sbeok.shnf

Give the AUD a shot, then pass it along to a friend.
-Ed (06/15/2010)

Was this the first show Phil & Ned did Seastones?
-Murphy (01/02/2013)

You're gonna resort to calling Big House a DOUCHE (not dusche) just cause he happens to not like this show as much as you guys?

Different strokes for different folks.

I have yet to hear this show, have only heard the Dark Star Jam/Spanish Jam/U.S. Blues medley on "So Many Roads". Looking forward to hearing it.
-Come on, guys (07/07/2014)

I'm telling you, you can't discount this show Big House. It may not be as good as some of the epic shows of this delightful year, but there is some heavy love coming out of this show.

I collect all the Seastones shows, and this one was solid.
-Dave Fadoul (02/14/2015)

I can understand why big house don't like this one with all the technical problems is very hard but the music is all picturesque. I love it and listen all the time, prolly my favorite from 74, but there are others I could say that about too
-Anonymous (11/03/2015)

Wow.
Apparently one cannot give anything other than a stellar *mindblowing* review because it's the Grateful Dead and they can do no wrong.
BigHouse your frank assessment is appreciated. Music appreciation is SUBJECTIVE.
- (06/28/2016)

Hmm, seems to be a heated debate going on about this show. Perhaps Dick Latvala should weigh in: [discussing the best shows of '74] "The 6/16 &6/18 shows are usually praised pretty highly...But they do come up lacking when compared to what followed a week later. The Miami Jai-Alai Fronton show of 6/23/74 is one of my favorite shows of the year. It almost could be the best of the year as a show unto itself. (I am aware that 7/19 and 8/6 present a fairly strong alternative
to this)"
-Andrew (12/15/2017)

Just got announced as Dave’s Picks, Vol. 34
-Friend of the Archivist (12/30/2019)

1st let me say this show is legendary among tapers. The other thing is EVERYONE has this show and and with great sound. Why are they letting this Canadian trust fund creep bleed people dry with this money grab that's going on.
-Old School (01/03/2020)

Bit arrogant to assume EVERYONE already has this show and is satisfied with the sound. I'm not one of those and have a fairly comprehensive collection. I've been looking forward to an official release for decades. Bought a 2020 sub last month and can hardly call less than $8 per CD a "cash grab."
- (01/05/2020)

Cash grab! Lesh wanted Archive.org have everything. Weir didn't and that was a big dividing point between them. And not arrogant, if you are or was a dedicated trader you would have it AND in good sound. So I stand with what I said. I spent years trading and upgrading not waiting for to fall into my lap.
-Old School (01/05/2020)

Whatever. Nothing worse than a mean spirited Dead Head.
- (01/06/2020)

Had this show since the late 70's. Cumberland makes me smile every time. GET IT!
-Ray (01/09/2020)

Opinions are like assholes, everyone had one
-Old School (03/29/2020)

Only a month to go until release date for the official Dave's set with the sub Bonus Disc. BONUS!
- (03/31/2020)

Parts of this have been professionally released. Let It Rock was one of the bonus tracks on the expanded re-release of Mars Hotel in 2004. The Dark Star>Spanish Jam>U.S.Blues medley was on the So Many Roads (5-CD) retrospective release in 1999. Both tracks are HDCD.

-Bookkeeper (04/21/2020)

I would not give quite as harsh of a grading as Big House, but given the awesomeness that was ’74 Wall of Sound Dead, I think this show is kind-of middling. That’s not to say it’s not good & worthwhile…it is very pleasing with the Dark Star>Spanish jam leading into US Blues being the show’s signature. However, with this concert being sandwiched between Iowa/Louisville and the Providence/Boston series, the Fronton just does not quite rise to those levels (IMO). That said, with the recent Dave’s Picks release, I am happy and thankful to now have this beautiful sounding complete show in my library.
- (06/27/2020)

First Seastones. Not a lot of other highlights.
-Anonymous (09/09/2020)

It's June 23, 1974 ... whole show's a highlight.
-Anonymous (01/10/2021)

A sweet and rare treat to hear the band play Jerry’s Let it Rock! Another great show from one of their best year, gotta love 1974 GD! Peace
- (02/13/2021)

Well it was announced today that the Dania Beach Jai-Alai Fronton will be closing after nearly 70 years in operation.

The newspaper article I read failed to mention this run as one of the highlights of the place's existence.
- (11/22/2021)

It's a show from '74. Nuff sed
-Ray (01/07/2022)

What's wrong with a cash grab? I remember an interviewer (Letterman?) asking Jerry back in the 80's if he was worried that with the release of Touch of Grey as a single (and a video on MTV) that some fans would think that the Dead were selling out. Jerry replied "We've been trying to sell out for years, but nobody was buying"...
