This was my first time I saw them. It was my eighteenth birthday and I went with a girl called Melony.
It was,of course, magnificent.
I think the only tape of the show was recorded on a cheap old mono recorder.
If anyone knows of a good recording would they please let me know.
Some songs are on the Steppin Out CD.

Not your average second set by any stretch of the imagination. 2nd of only 5(all in 72) Rockin' Pneumonia's. Not sure if Mexicali ever made it to the 2nd set before or after this show and I am too lazy to check the other 432 performances. Black Peter as the 3rd song, the boys were taking it slow before blasting off into the big heavies.

Cold Rain and Snow-Boys start off with fat sounding licks and chords along with chilled vocals.
-Perrinswolf (02/06/2008)

In the Rockin The Rhein CD it says the two bonus tracks (turn on your lovelight and the stranger-two souls in communion) are from this show. while i see turn on your lovelight on here i dont see the stranger (two souls in communion) and the cd says its from may 24 1972. was it just maybe left off here by accident or somehow maybe they messed it up and its really from another show. who knows
-chris (11/07/2008)

nevermind, Lovelight is missing from here
-chris (12/19/2008)

There is a brief Mexican Hat Dance (?) between Black Peter & Truckin'
-Mike Nomad (12/27/2011)

not Mexican Hat Dance....what is that?!?!
-Anonymous (05/27/2012)

Just an excellent show. One of the best cold rain and snows ever. The show as a whole is special with pigpen giving all he had even though he was very sick. If you are any kind of fan of music or dead then this must be in your collection. Go grab a copy of steppin out with the grateful dead england 72

There's a ''Weather Report Suite: Prelude'' tease between ''Deal'' and ''Me And My Uncle''. I know they played it later during the summer, but this might be the first time. Can anyone confirm this?
-Katapultable (11/24/2012)

Great Black Peter, Gurrrreat Recourd
-John Lennon (05/01/2014)

A fine farewell to Pigpen here with that (hoppin!) Lovelight > Stranger medley...yes, he did a handful of shows after this one, but I kind of like to think of Europe as his swan song...

This entire 2nd set is fantastic stuff - the Other One is yet another demented beast unleashed, and dig that Playin' - this might be one of the best versions played on the tour.

Last real Lovelight. Bobby's 80s cheese does not count.

Listening to this show at home right now. "Sing Me Back Home" brought tears to my eyes. At times I miss Jerry so much.

Dave Lemieux was just referring to this show as one of the most overlooked across Europe '72. Similar to Winter '69, Spring '70, Spring '77, etc. there is not a single show from Europe '72 that is anything less than magical. That said, my 'go-to' shows from that tour are typically 4/8 Wembley, 5/3 Paris, or the 5/25 & 5/26 shows from the Lyceum. All that to say...I'm now hooked on 5/24!

Beautiful "Hurts Me Too" & sadly the last version Pigpen played. The Playin' in the Band is amazing (as so many are), I really did Rockin Pneumonia as well. I'm a BIG fan of the Black Peter at this show, especially the noodling "Mexican Hat Dance" they play before launching in to a monster Truckin'. I've heard the Hat Dance many times, but this is one of the most complete versions & it sounds mint! It would take me more than 30 minutes to describe the 30 minute Other 1 (so I won't). This show is a real GEM !!!
