Comments:

Is the Main Ten where Playin originates from? Been rockin to the Dead for almost 25 years and just heard it for the first time on GD Radio this morning. Sure sounds like Playin'!

No. I'm not sure exactly when The Main Ten was first played but the earliest recording I have is from November 8, 1969. Available on Dick's Picks 16.

They start off with Dark Star then fall into The Other One then back into a Dark Star jam then into an Uncle John's Band jam, then they finish Dark Star and go into St. Stephen and The Eleven. Then Caution, then The Main Ten, then Caution, and then Feedback and finally And We Bid You Goodnight.

The Main Ten was the seed for Playin. Details here: http://archive.org/post/209242/the-main-ten

And be sure to check out the 11-8-70 show linked in the second post. It's amazing!!

Don't miss the version of The Main Ten on Mickey's Rolling Thunder album, along with the proto-Greatest Story, the Pump Song.

Also...this is an essential show. Absolutely top shelf.
