Comments:

First and best of 4 Dead shows I have had the privilege to attend. I was visiting a friend at UPENN that weekend and heard remarkably clear Morning Dew -- a favorite of mine. Said to friend: "Someone's got a loud stereo". Friend says, "No, the Dead are at Irvine." After I cursed him out for not buying us tix, we wandered over and tried to somehow get in. Having been rebuffed at the main entrance, we walked around back where a young black kid said: "You guys wanna get in?" Next thing I knew, I was backstage for the beginning of "Not Fade Away." Wandered up to the bank of amps and spent the night sitting on an amp on the left side of the stage. As I remember, Pigpen directly to my right and JC was out front left (other shows I saw him stage right).

Probably my all-time favorite concert experience. Certainly could not have happened even 2 years later....
