Is this the only known playing of Mountains Of The Moon? Wow, that would be something. Only played once.

Excellent The Eleven

II
Hard To Handle and Cosmic Charley ar kind of sluggish.

After ITS A SIN Jerry asks the crowd, "what do you want to hear for the next ten minutes.

Truly a monumental show. Great setlist and great playing by the boys.

Mtns on the Moon-enjoyable the way Garcia transitions from acoustic to electric into Dark Star opening.

HOLY SHIT!
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This is one of the top 5 hottest Grateful Dead shows EVER!
some reasons:

1)Dupree's opener is near PERFECT!
2)Mountains......please let me know of another example of Garcia playing the acoustic guitar like this WITH the Grateful Dead!
3)The transition from acoustic Mountains into electric Dark Star is seamless and EPIC!
4)The DARK STAR!
5)The QUALITY of the recording!
I could go on and on, but this is adequate in proving my point!
CHECK IT OUT!!!

Mountains Of The Moon was common in the late evening shows of winter/spring 1969. It usually followed Dupree's to open the set and had a nice transition from Jerry on acoustic (and Tom Constanten on keys) to electric into Dark Star.

Check out 2-11-69 (late show / set 2) and 3-1-69 as other nice readings of Mountains.

At 1:20:30 and again about 1 minute later (during the tuning before Cryptical) Bobby can be heard noodling bits of what will become Weather Report Suite, which won't be heard as an actual song for another 3 years!

This is one of my favorite early shows. Had a CD made and love the Mountains into Dark Star.
