T.C.'s first show

My first show. Was hoping for Viola Lee Blues. Can't remember if I got it, I was too dazzled. Small crowd, free show for those who delayed departure from Athens for Thanksgiving to see it or who were staying at O.U. through the weekend. Pig stepped out and Tom took the keys for the first time. Thanks to Dick Rickertt, Philosophy prof then, for convincing the Dead to truck on down from the Columbus show.

P.S. Mem aud taped the performers who played there, I heard. This night was notably missing from that archive when I found someone on line who could check. C'mon... someone must have a dub of a dub of a dub.... ?

First experiment with the wall of piano sound that the Dead would eventually perfect at the 11/6/77 Broome County show where Pig, Keith, TC, Brent, Vince , Hornsby and many others would grace the stage

I was at the Columbus show. Yes it was mostly heads from Athens as Athens was major mecca for freaks and heads. Next night they were in Athens for a freebie. If I remember correctly a guy from the SDS tried to stop the show to get us to go protest somewhere. I don't think anyone left with him. Yes around midnight some University a-hole turned off the power. I do remember some of the Dead going acoustic for a while. I also remember them jaming at one of the hippie farms outside of town into the wee hours.
